Kathleen Kennedy Confirms that Carrie Fisher Will NOT Appear in Episode IX
Via Good Morning America:
This morning while at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, FL Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced in an exclusive interview with ABC’s Good Morning America that late actress will NOT appear in Star Wars: Episode IX in any form. This statement directly contradicts a statement made by Carrie Fisher’s brother Todd who last month announced that his sister, who passed away last December at the age of 60, would appear in the next Star Wars installment via previously shot and unused footage.
“[Todd Fisher] was probably confused because we finished everything in ‘Eight,’ and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie. We’re so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer. Unfortunately, Carrie passed away,” Kennedy said.
Fisher told various media outlets that Disney and Lucasfilm had been given permission to use footage of the actress in “Star Wars: Episode IX.”
“By the time we were well underway with ‘Episode Nine’ in our thoughts — we had not written the script yet — but we’ve regrouped, we started over again in January,” Kennedy added.
‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ will be directed by Colin Trevorrow and is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on May 23rd, 2019.
