2018 Toy Fair – LEGO
This past weekend we were invited by LEGO to attend their annual Sneak Preview Breakfast at the Javits Convention Center. The event is an opportunity for press and bloggers to get-together for a first look at new LEGO construction sets that will be arriving in stores throughout 2018.
All of LEGO’s most popular lines were represented. Marvel, DC, LEGO City, LEGO Juniors, Ninjago, Jurassic World, Minecraft and of course Star Wars.
Most of the Star Wars items on display were products already available in stores, such as construction sets from ‘The Last Jedi’, like ‘Ahch-To Island Training’ and ‘Defense of Crait’, Buildable figures such as Darth Vader and Boba Fett and the fan-favorite MicroFighters.
One of the two new sets being shown for the first time was the ‘Dagobah’ set from ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ that included Yoda’s hut as well as Yoda, Luke Skywalker and a ‘muddy’ R2-D2 minifigure.
The other new set was one that LEGO revealed on social media the day earlier in the week. The ‘Kessel Run Millennium Falcon’ from the upcoming film ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ featured a new take on the classic and iconic starship. A gleaming white ship with blue accents and sleeker look had replaced the gray, heavily modified ship fans have known and loved for the past 40 years. While no minifigures were on display with the ship, five of the seven figures the ship will come with were revealed earlier in the week. Look for new versions of Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando along with new characters Qi’ra and a Kessel Droid when the set makes it to store shelves in April.
