2018 FanExpo Boston
This past weekend we visited the FanExpo Boston convention at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
This show, formerly known as Boston Comic Con has grown by leaps and bounds over the past decade. What started out for the most part as a purely comic book convention with artists, creators and a few vendors selling primarily comic books, has expanded into a full-fledged pop culture extravaganza for the folks in the New England region.
While this year’s big draw was the reunion of the Back to the Future cast (Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Tom Wilson), there were dozens of other actors there covering all divisions of fandom. The DCEU was represented by Aquaman himself Jason Momoa while the MCU had The Wasp herself, Evangeline Lilly entertaining fans. Other celebrities in town for the weekend included William Shatner (Star Trek), Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars), Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) and Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman).
The artist gallery featured over 200 local and national creators including Jim Lee, Neal Adams, Drew Struzan, John Byrne and so many more.
Overall I was impressed with the show. the convention center was more that adequate, allowing for wide aisles and less of the congestion you see at shows this size. It was also a very family friendly show, with lots to see and do for fans of all ages.
Our thanks to the staff at FanExpo Boston for bringing a great show to the pop culture fans of the Boston are and we here at the Cantina can’t wait to see what is planned for FXB in 2019.
