New York Comic Con

New York Comic Con 2011

Report:

On Friday Oct 14th the staff of the CollectorsCantina.com made our way down to New York City for the 2011 New York Comic Con at the Javits Center. For those that have never been to NYCC, it is basically an assembly of all things Pop Culture. From comic books and movies to video games and anime with artists and celebrities sprinkled in, it offers something for practically everyone. The convention spans over four levels of the Javits Center with every square foot being covered.  Inside the Javits there were various artists, actors, vendors, and exhibitors representing pretty much everything under the sun.  Attendees in costume were in full force as well with lots of great Cosplay costumes representing characters from Star Wars, DC Comics, Anime and more.

This year Hasbro made its first ever appearance in New York and made a great first impression. They conducted in-depth presentations for their various lines of toys and collectibles as well as displays for each. The Star Wars presentation offered the latest news on what to expect for the upcoming year along with a tease of things to come at ToyFair 2012. Check out their presentation.

We also made it to the Star Wars Collectibles panel w/Chris Spitale. This presentation covered a majority of what is coming from the various current vendors as well as some of the upcoming items from new vendors. This presentation was very informative and even featured some surprise give-aways including T-shirts and Kotobukiya items.

The highlight of our day was when our very own Scruffy_Nerfherder had the opportunity to interview Ashley Eckstein, voice of Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and founder of the Her Universe clothing line for the women. The interview was very informative with Ashley covering topics including potential new licenses for the company, what to expect from Ahsoka in Season 4 and what Ashley’s favorite movie of all-time is. The entire interview can be viewed on our youtube channel. A giant thank you goes out to Ashley for taking the time out of her hectic weekend to chat with us.

Overall the trip down to Comic Con 2011 was a huge success. The convention was everything we expected and more. It was a great experience and the entire staff cannot wait until next year’s event.
