Yesterday afternoon LEGO unveiled their newest Star Wars building set at the annual San Diego Comic Con. "The Rancor Pit" includes Lego-fied versions of the Rancor, the Rancor Keeper, Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, and Gamorrean Guard. It is unknown at this time if this new set is able to connect with the "Jabba's Palace" set that was unveiled at the 2012 Toy Fair in New York City.

Below is a portion of today's press release from LEGO Systems, Inc.:

To help launch the 3D premiere of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in Germany, an ad agency created a one-of-a-kind Star Wars-themed barrel organ containing well over 20,000 Lego bricks. The company, Serviceplan Campaign comissioned the organ to be built in such a way that when cranked buy hand, the Lego bricks and minifigures trigger levers that strike keys on a keyboard which in turn, plays the main theme from all six Star Wars movies.

The cool kids over at From Bricks to Bothans have done it again. While watching a video on an unrelated Lego product, they happened to notice an often rumored Lego model of R2-D2 standing off to the side minding his own business. While they report the item number for this is 10225, there is no mention of when this might actually be "officially" announced or when we could expect it on store shelves.

With San Diego Comic Con and Star Wars Celebration VI only months away, here's hoping that all the juicy details regarding this awesome-looking set will be revealed sooner rather than later.

Our full coverage of the 2012 New York Toy Fair is now live. Thanks to each and every one of you for your patience. We had a blast covering the show and hope you enjoy the photos and reports.

While taking a look around the official Lego website today I came across a page of new Star Wars building sets that are currently available for pre-order. The new sets cover all aspects of the Saga, original trilogy, the prequels and the animated Clone Wars series. Among the new products available is a new line of mini building sets which include a minifigure, mini-model, display stand with name plaque and a small plastic globe which looks like it can either be displayed or used as a container to hold the disassembled pieces.

While all the new sets are available for pre-order right now, they do not begin shipping until January 30th.

Over the weekend our friends over at FlyGuy.net posted some great images of some new Lego sets that will be hitting store shelves in 2012. Included among the typical building sets, there is a new series of Lego Planet Series sets. These new sets each include a mini-figure, mini-vehicle and plastic mini planet based on a particular theme. Series one of this new wave include a TIE Pilot with a TIE Interceptor and mini Death Star, a Naboo Pilot with a Naboo fighter and a mini Naboo, and a set featuring Sebulba with his pod racer and the planet Tatooine.
