STAR WARS DAY AT THE HANGAR
On May 4th, 2013 the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver, CO held it annual Star Wars Day. The event was made more special since it fell on the Star Wars fan holiday of “May the 4th be with you”. The Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum is located in the Hangar 1 of the Lowry Air Force Base that hosted the first Celebration before the release of The Phantom Menace. It is also the home of a 3/4 scale X-wing that was on display at the first Celebration. On this day select fans choosen by a random drawing and awarded a Boarding Pass were given a chance to sit in the cockpit of the X-wing, which was definitely one of the many highlights of the day. There were many fun activities for all ages such as the Featured Photo-Ops, Foam Lightsabers many battles took place throughout the day, Driod Factory display with some R2 units and a Droideka, Comic book class room, Star Wars craft, Green screen adventures that put you right in the middle of a classic scene, veiwing of Star Wars fan films in the Harrison Ford Welcome Theater, and the ever popular Shoot a Trooper the lines for this event were long all day and the proceeds from the ticket sales went to a great cause. The event was hosted by the great folks of the X-wing Project, the Rocky Mountain Fan Force, the Mountain Garrison of the 501st, and the Mountain Base of the Rebell Legion. These folks put on a great show for those that attended the event. There were lots of great costumes to be seen. You could see Bounty Hunters, Imperials, Rebels, Sith, a Darth Potato Head, and a Cyborg Darth Maul the same one that made his debut at C2E2. These groups did a fantastic job with this event and made the day have a Celebration feel to it. It was definitely worth the 7+ hr drive from Salt Lake City, UT ,where I was on work assignment, to Denver, CO to attend the event and get a chance to see and sit inside an X-wing. It was a fun time had by all that is for sure. Until next time May the Force be with you.
