Hot Topic’s Star Wars Variant Cover Back On Sale
Over the past week the curious case of the Hot Topic Variant Cover of Marvel’s Star Wars #1 has been all the talk of the comic book universe. Because a “confidential” image of a certain Funko collectible accidentally made it onto the back cover, the unsold copies were pulled from store shelves and in some cases destroyed. That in turn sent the value of a comic book with a retail price of $3.99 soaring on the secondary market, with prices as high as $99.
This morning, the Facebook page Star Wars Comic Books published an internal memo from Hot Topic to their Store Operation Teams instructing them that the Funko image in question was no longer considered confidential and all unsold issues could go back out onto store shelves. Hopefully this developement will put an end to the high prices on the secondary market and allow comic book and Star Wars fans to add it to their collections at a far more reasonable price.
