Boston Super Megafest
This past weekend we visited the annual Super Megafest convention which after a couple of years at a different venue had returned to the Sheraton Hotel in Framingham, MA where the convention first began over 15 years ago.
The celebrity appearances at this year’s show seemed to focus on reunions. From the surviving cast of ‘Lost in Space’ (Bill Mumy, Mark Goddard, Marta Kristen and Angela Cartwright to cast members from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ (James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter and Nicholas Brendan) and even ‘Leave it to Beaver (Tony Dow and Jerry Mathers), fans of these classic television series had plenty of opportunities to make lifetime memories with photo opportunities and autograph signings.
The artist gallery featured over a dozen local and national creators including Peter Laird, Joe St. Pierre, and more.
Overall it was great having the show back ‘home’. There were vendors of all kinds with everything from Silver Age comic books, vintage toys and classic movie posters to cosplay props, Japanese anime collectibles and handmade art and crafts . It was also a very family friendly show, with lots to see and do for fans of all ages. Sunday was declared ‘Kids Day’ with tickets for children 12 and under costing only $6!
Our thanks goes out to the staff at Super Megafest for bringing a great show back home to the Sheraton Hotel where it belongs and we here at the Cantina can’t wait to see what is planned for SMF in 2019.
