2019 New England Super Megafest
This past weekend we visited the annual New England Super Megafest convention once again back at the Sheraton Hotel in Framingham, MA where the convention first began over 15 years ago.
The main celebrity appearances at this year’s show focused on a cast reunion of one of the most-loved television series of the 1970’s and 80’s. The three main stars from the CBS hit ‘The Dukes of Hazzard reunited at SMF for the weekend. Tom Wopat, John Schneider and Catherine Bach spent the weekend signing autographs and participating in group photo opps with eager fans. Another cast that reunited for the weekend was the cast of the 1979 cult film ‘The Warriors’. Stars Michael Beck and Deborah Van Valkenburgh led the cast that took over a significant chunk of the main convention floor. Other celebrities making an appearance over the weekend included Anthony Forrest (Star Wars), Carmen Electra (Baywatch), Butch Patrick (The Munsters) and Edward Furlong (Terminator 2)
The artist gallery featured over a dozen local and national creators including Joe St. Pierre, Steve Lavigne and more.
It was another solid weekend for the annual ‘Megafest’. There were vendors of all kinds with everything from Silver Age comic books, vintage toys and classic movie posters to cosplay props, Japanese anime collectibles and handmade art and crafts . It was also a very family friendly show, with lots to see and do for fans of all ages. Sunday, as always, is ‘Kids Day’ with tickets for children 12 and under costing only $6!
Our thanks goes out to the staff at Super Megafest for once again bringing a great show to the Sheraton Hotel (where it belongs!) and we here at the Cantina can’t wait to see what is planned for SMF in 2020!
