‘The Rise of Skywalker’ Released Early on Digital Platforms
This evening The Rise of Skywalker, the final chapter in the nine episode Star Wars Saga was released early on the digital platforms via Vudu and iTunes (North America only).
The film, which was originally scheduled to release on Tuesday, March 17th, arrived four days early. No reason was given by Disney or Lucasfilm, but it is believed that the move may have been spurred by the spreading coronavirus pandemic, as millions of people are staying at home amid the crisis. Disney also announced that Frozen II would debut on their Disney+ streaming app this Sunday (March 15) three months ahead of schedule.
The Rise of Skywalker is currently scheduled to be released on physical DVD and in 4K Ultra HD on Blu-ray on March 31, when it also is slated to become available to rent.
